Hi guys, First time here in appliances. I ususally hang out in the electrical forum. But I have and easy one (I think).

Kenmore Series 80 Washer
Model: 110.24872300
Serial: CP3937236

Here is events:
1) Water fills correctly
2) Agitates properly and on time
3) Drains perfectly
4) Motor is humming but it wont spin

I removed the agitator, motor and drive shaft. I inspected the clutch. There does not seem to be any issues. The plastic piece is ok and locks into cam fine. Cam rotates fine and unlocks breaks. Tub spins freely (no obstructions). The shaft has no wear. The coupling is ok, nothing worn or broke. The issue is with the drive block. It appears that there was "pegs" or "posts" (that lock into agitator???) There are metal shavings on the column and now on bottom of tub and on the inside of the agitator.

I think drive block needs replaced. Does this seem logical? is there a schematic? is it worth repairing? how many beers will it take for me to fix? if it is more than a six-beer job than it is not worth my time.

This was given to me by a neighbor who was throwing it away anyways. She bought a new one.

Did you see it agitate or just hear it?? Open top and see if agitating, If not than drive coupler. Drive block and drive coupler to different parts. I don't think it's a drive block. Drive block will make a lot of noise when bad. One of the best of the Whrilpool type washers I would fix it and never buy a another new one. Same one I have.

i disagree with pugs %100. drive block often wear all the way through so there is no noise anymore. easy job to replace but you do need to get a whirlpool spanner nut wrench

I did see it run. It agitates very agressively. When in spin cycle the motor and clutch engages but spin is very weak. So there is no mechanical link. There is some friction as it does rotate. Im guessing that the drive lugs are worn but not engaging. I noticed that there mechanism to spin is different than the mechanism to agitate.

I believe it is the drive lugs because there is metal shavings when I pulled out the agitator and drive shaft. there are no lugs or pegs any more on the top of the colunm.

How much to repair?

Look about 6 inches from bottom in cabinet. If you see a oil streak you need a Gearcase, clutch and I would replace drive coupler also. tilt washer back aginest wall and look under there. You can get a seal for gearcase much cheaper than whole gearcase.

metal shavings under agitator = bad drive block
