I have problems with the pole lights along the sidewalk at two differant locations. One curcuit has 6 lamp post with transformers running Mercury Vapor bulbs and attached to a photocell. The problem is the lights are staying on in the daylight now. I've replaced the photocell with a new one and still the lights are on always. What do I need to check for?

I'm going to guess that the photocell trips a relay which actually switches the lights on and off. First verify that the photocell is good, then locate and check the relay.

You will have to find the contractor { larger multi pole switch } and check the coil voltage and the concats not stuck at all like points burnted up or welded shut.

And verify the proper connection to the photocell the black is power supply white is netural and red is load that go driectly to the luminaire itself or contractor if large numbers of luminaires.

Check the conductors from photocell to contractor I know sometime you get both unswitched and switched { from photocell } touching each other if that the case you will have to replace the conductor to advoid any more issue.

The only way the contractor get stuck if not checked from time to time and short circuit will useally weld the concats.

Check the contractor armture { plunger } to make sure it is not hanging up or stuck.

Hope that will help you follow the troubleshooting.

Merci.
