My 85 year old father has put together a book of pictures, letters and typed up pages of when he met mom in England during the war. Is there software out there where I could scan all of this and manipulate everything?

Generally a scanner will have appropriate software in the package. There's no quick easy way to do it, as you will have to do it one pix and one page at a time. But I am sure it will be worth the pain to have an archived copy of such treasures. Just save the pictures to a CD-RW. that way you can keep adding to the CD as you go without clogging up your computer's memory.
