Hello people,
I am a intermediate wood worker, and I wanted to make a custom in-set shelving in a plaster wall in my bathroom above my toilet. I already checked and there is no electric or plumbing that is running behind it. What I am is trying to figure out is how to build the framing once I create the ruff opening. Do I need to install a header? How do I attach a bottom plate if it will be in the middle of the wall. I would assume I would attach it to the nearest stud??? Also any tips on cutting the clean opening would be greatly appreciated?
Kind regards,
Paul

If you plan to make the shelves more than 16" long which would be more than the distance between the corner stud & the next one, then you will have to remove part of one stud & frame to the next one. That might me more work than you want to do for the 2" that you would gain going into the wall. What type if lath do you have?
