I have an Eastern Read Cedar which the foliage has started turning brown. The tree is about 45 yrs old and about 30 ft high. The browning started this fall sometime, but I cannot say exactly when. The browning starts at the base of the stem and progresses toward the tip and then falls off. The foliage density has thinned and about 1/4 of the foliage has turned. I am in zone 6 New Jersey. I should also mention the area has had a lot of rainfall this year. Any ideas what the problem is and how it is treated?
