We installed a new GE dishwasher today turned it on and smoke came from behing. Can you tell me if we did something wrong?:madhell:

well, there are two choices:
yes, you did something wrong
no, the unit is defective
since all we know is it smoked, there is no way to determine which it is.
did you accidentally hook it up with 240 volts? (or intentionally).
Did you pinch any wiring that might have shorted out?
If not, then I would say the unit is defective.
Dishwashers are not that difficult to install. A little water; a little drainage, a little power= clean dishes.

Maybe you miss reading the manual first. Try checking your electrical connections, the problem might be coming from there. If you didn't do anything wrong, the dishwasher is the problem. Let the store replace it with something new.
