At the moment the flowerbed out front is contained with aged logs, they're structured well enough but they've turned a dirty green color, is there a way to buff these up or should i look into a replacement containment?

what would be the most economical choice?

You can turn it into a rock garden and use some rock garden plants (http://setlandscape.com/rock-garden-plants-09-10-01.html) or just add some fall blooming perennials (http://setlandscape.com/fall-blooming-perenials-09-09-15.html).

You might be able to freshen them up by washing with a brush and a mixture or bleach 25% in water with some Tide, rinsing well before and after. Wear gloves.
