I want to run ethernet from the shed with my satellite internet dish to the cabin where the computers are - 200ft. It is currently wireless and is a really poor connection... but that's a different question!

I plan to use direct burial cat6...

a) What tools and other items do I need to buy to complete this project? I want a wall jack at each end. Spoke to one wiring pro who suggested NOT terminating the Direct Burial cable direct to the wall jacks, but to a box outside the cabin, then crimping it to some standard guage cat5/6 and running that into the house to the jacks.

b) any tips on handling (cutting/stripping) the gel filled direct burial cable - how oozy is the gel filling?

lastly does anyone know what's in that gel?

TIA

Jenny

anytime you run Ethernet outside it really should go to fiber

if you want to do it right get some preterminated fiber and a couple of media converters

probably wouldn't be a lot more than the DB Cat 6

If you decide to use the DB cable it should terminate to primary and secondary surge suppression on each end or risk losing equipment to surges (could even have a fire that insurance wouldn't cover )

Mango Man tells you how to do it the best way.

If you have the cable already, use it. Every splice is a possible source of problems, so if it was myselves, I would run it in direct from one end to the other.
Were I live lightning is no problem, so I would skip the over voltage protection too. (Surge protectors)

If I should start from zero, or if lightning could be a problem; I would have done as Mango man sugests.
