Hi Everybody-
I stayed on these boards when I was revamping my kitchen originally and find myself coming back for some consul now.
I have finally scraped up the cash to install the stone countertops that I so grandly planned 2+ years ago. In the interim there was a temporary sink installed so we could use the kitchen and I wouldnt go crazy. This sink has held tons of dishes over time and has depressed the edges of the cabinet.
Well, I was reviewing the contract because the field measurer is coming monday and it clearly states that, "all cabinets must be open and level." If they are not level, ther is an additional charge. I just checked with the company, I dont have the remove the temporary sink, but that still leaves the issue of the corner cabinet not being level.
This cabinet is the notorious 37 inch corner Ikea cabinet. I have seen other references to it warping in other posts.
My solution is to have 12 inch wide strips of 3/4 inch plywood cut to the length necessary to level the cabinet edge and screw those strips through the cabinet back and the drywall into the studs behind the drywall. This would be done on both back sides of the cabinet walls so the stone would have a level platform to sit. I would also attach a 2x2 post to the opening (which is a 90 degree opening). This 2x2 would be measured to restore this opening back to level. This would preclude me from putting the lobster pot in this cabinet, but otherwise I would be able to use the space just as before.
I'm hoping that the professional carpenters on this site arent rolling on the floor laughing by now. My solution may not be the prettiest but It would give me the level surface I need to have the countertops installed. If there is a better way to approach this, I would appreciate any suggestions you could offer. I've swam upstream for a long time in order to get these countertops. I intend to enjoy them. :coffee:

You need those cabinets to be level to within 1/8" in 10' of run to support the stone tops, and to ensure the seams will come together right. I understand your idea for 3/4" plywood backs in the lazy susan cabinet, but won't a 2 X 2 post interfere with the door and shelf operation? Instead of a 2 X 2 post, could you use a steel bar about 1/2" X 3" horizontal and parallel to the cabinet corner rail already in place? It would be up out of the way and not obvious from the front. Support it on two cleats screwed to the cabinet back on one end and cabinet side just behind the door on the other. Good luck
