Hello all. I've attached a couple of photos of my original flooring in my 1925 house in Texas - note that in one of the photos half of the wood is stained and the other half not, but it's the same wood. I assume it's pine, although I'm not sure. I need to figure it out so I can go by more flooring to closely match it. Two questions:

(1) Can you tell what type of wood it is?

(2) Why am I having such a hard time finding it in 2 1/4 inch wide strips/planks like the original size; might this be because I am mistakingly telling lumber/flooring stores that it's pine?

Thanks in advance for all of your thoughts.

No expert..but looks like good old pine to me. As to the size...maybe its not that popular or available in that size anymore? Though normally I thought that was a problem with the real wide stuff..not the smaller.

Couple of searches showed most pine is around 5" now apparently. And even at a plece that specialized in pine..the smallest was 3 1/8" actual.

Maybe one of the Pro's will have more info...good luck!

Thanks! Yeah, I think it's pine as well. I've only been able to find it from a lumber yard which will mill it for me for only 2 bucks a ft2.

Yeah, GG, I think that is the milling cost added to the cost of the wood.
Egbrown76, it is pine, probably southern yellow pine, and I doubt very seriously you will find any in 2 1/4" strips. Maybe someone like Lumber Liquidators would carry it, not sure.

Definitely pine, and u'r not likely to find 2 1/4" off the shelf anywhere. If you have someone locally that will mill it for you, I would go for it!

You could also make it yourself from simple power tools such as a router and circular saw if your trying to save money. You use #1 or "D" grade 1X6. That would give you two finished boards per piece of wood. Or buy tongue and groove 1X4, rip the groove side off to exact width need and add a new groove with a router. Or buy tongue and groove #1 1X6, rip and add a tongue to one piece and groove to the other. T&G 1X4 is common but T&G 1X6 might be hard to find.
