FYI for owners of MTD 150 snow throwers w/Tecumseh HSK845 2 cycle w/110v electric starter TEC 590670. Took the snow thrower out to prep for winter -- hit electric starter - it kicked the engine over, but tossed out what appeared to be a rubber washer. From that point forward the starter would spin, but the starter gear would not engage the flywheel. I checked postings and everyone said buy new starter ($120-150 bucks). I called my local shop -- advised me that the rubber washer was actually part of the starter drive. it sits between the splined drive washer and the starter gear and acts as the failure point if something jams up. It cost me $10 and about 1/2 hour to replace it.. Much better solution.
