I have an old house near a historic district and there an old fireplace hidden in a wall. I'm hanging a 5.1 speaker system and I've had to use anchors in my other plaster walls, but the wall with the old fireplace I imagine has a chimney in it and the drill stops after about 1/2 inch. Can/should I try and get through the chimeny to hang these speakers, or should I just settle with putting the speakers on things instead of on the wall?
If I poke a hole in the chimmeny that might cause problems in and of it self. let me know what you think.
I'll post images if it'll be helpful.
