Heat Pumps and Electric Heating - Honeywell Thermostat RTH7500 Installation

Hello.

I was hoping someone may be able to help me install my new Thermostat. It's a Honeywell, 7-day programmable, Model No. RTH7500D. I bought two for two different systems.

I have an old (24 yrs) Amana system, I believe it's a heat pump. I was under the impression that I had back up heat or aux heat, but I don't really know how to tell. The whole system sits outside, condenser & air handler. The wires I have coming from the unit, as identified at the unit, are:

R
Y
G
W
W1

The new thermostat gives the following options for heat pump:

C
G
Y
O/B
RC
R
AUX
E
L

the installation instructions says to install W, W1 or W2 into AUX, but can I install BOTH W and W1 into AUX? I don't know what any of the wires actually do so I have no idea where they go.

I also have the same thermostat for another system.. This one is a split system and the air handler is in the attic. The wires coming from THAT unit are labeled and identified as:

G
Y1
W1
W2

This one I know is a heat pump with an aux heater. If anyone can give me any help, I'd really appreciate it. If you need any more info, please let me know, i'll do my best to explain things better if i need to do so.

Where are you reading these wire labels?
Heatpump will use either O or B to energize a reversing valve, you have not listed either.

You might remove the panel to your air handler and write down the color = terminal combo there.

For the downstairs unit, the whole system or whatever, there is a single door to access these wire connections.. Those labels are etched or embossed into a plate..

For the split system, the labels come from the air handler in the attic. Again, there is an access door and the connections are labeled. I don't know if I need to check the condenser for this system outside.. I didn't do that since all my wires are accounted for at the air handler.

Post the "terminal = wire color" combo at your old stat.

I still do not see anything that would indicate that these are heatpumps.

Sounds like your downstairs unit is a package unit. I'm confident that that is not a heatpump.

A heatpump would run the compressor when heating.

Post the make and model of your old stat.

I suppose it's possible that they're not heat pumps.. I was told they were when I bought the house, but I don't really know the difference. I'll get that info for you. Thanks.

I have two units, an upstairs and downstairs unit. The upstairs unit has an air handler in the attic. Here are the wires as they are connected to that unit:

R - Red Wire
G - Green Wire
Y1 - Yellow Wire
W - White Wire
W1 - Blue Wire

It also appears that C also has a green wire.

If anyone has any thoughts on how to hook up the RTH7500D, Honeywell Thermostat to these two units, I'd really appreciate it. I don't have any old thermostats installed for reference. Thanks a lot!
