I've had a Blackberry for many years now and never had a virus. But, if I were to get one, I would just wipe the phone and reload the system software. 10-15 mins tops. I don't know if the BIS scans the files before sending it to the phone though......good question.

I wonder just by taking ones battery out for half hour then put it all back together again would this be a way to reload system software..I just bought myself a Blackberry Curve 8330 smartphone

No, all data will just get reloaded from memory. Bring it to your carrier and have them update you with the latest software / firmware (should be free if it's verizon). However, that may wipeout everything, including your phonebooks, calendars, and such; so make sure you have a "backup" of the data.

In my opinion, I don't think anybody have the luxury to program a virus specifically targeted for Blackberries. They have much bigger fish to catch... I wouldn't worry about it. If anything, it's most likely bad or corrupted software on your phone that is doing weird things.

I find my Blackberry is good for utube videos
just bookmark your favorites
I like utube cause one can get a variety
of info by listening to a utube video
I feel utube videos are the heart of the Internet
cause there is tons of info out there on any subject
just run your search

You can download the system software via blackbery web site, start Blackberry desktop manager, plug your phone in, and it will automatically backup and load the new system software.
