I'm building a small 25'x25' metal building shop. the pad will be 4" thick but how "big" should the footers be for this building? We live out in the country so there are no "city codes" we have to abide by. The shop will occaisionally house a pickup truck but nothing heavier.
any suggestions on the footer dimensions?
Thanks
James

Tell us more about the proposed building. What kind of frame work? How tall? What kind of roof?

To further Ken's question, my shop is basically the same thing, but it is a metal building with steel framing. At each point where the steel trusses meet the floor, there must be an additionally dug footer in addition to the normal footer with a rebar cage in it to take the outward stress of the steel trusses. We'll wait on your answer and see what we can come up with.

Well, the folks at TNT in North Texas are actually installing the building - it looks as if I get the honor of building the pad for it to sit on - thats why I asked about footers.
Let me see If I can provide enough info for you folks to help me.
The building itself is a 25ftx25ft, with 10ft sidewalls, 29ga siding and using 2 ¼ x 2 ¼ - 14 Gauge Galvanized Steel Square-Tube Framing. Thats about all I know about the building itself. Does that help?

Just wondering...doesn't the supplier have a required spec for the pad and footings? Most of the metal building suppliers normally have an Engineer on staff...ok..well at least when we had a steel building erected they did.

The manufacturer of my shop sent me prints, spec sheets out the wazoo when I ordered mine. Surely they would furnish you with a requirement sheet. They even sent templates for the L bolts to secure the trusses to the concrete.
