Hi,
I just purchased a 1 year-old home. The owner was in over his head and had to get rid of the house ASAP. Upon agreeing to a reduced price and signing the final docs the previous owner was very uncooperative in regards to several issues, including the installed security system....Vista 20P Ademco.
What I needed was the programmed security code. Since he was unwilling to give it to me I thought I could trouble shoot it.... which was the worst thing I could've done. :madhell:
This should show how unfamiliar I am with these devices.
I googled various forums in order to get info, but nothing that addresses my issue.... resetting the security code without knowing the current security code. :wall:
While messing with the keypad I unknowingly pressed '#' and activated the entire system! :alarm:
Now my wife and I cannot open or close any doors or windows without tripping the alarm!
For the time being I was able to disarm it by removing the keypad panel, taping the 4 wires together w/ electrical tape, and unplugging the battery.
I need some help, fellas! Please enlighten me on how to reset the security code.

It's entirely possible that you have killed your motherboard with your "shutdown" method.
First, get an installer manual by entering the phrase "vista 20p installer manual" into your favorite search engine.
First, go to the mother board and take one of the wire off of the first two terminals (this is the 16v AC power).
Reconnect the keypad wiring.
Put the wire _back_ on the AC power terminal.
Within 50 seconds, press * + # at the same time on the keypad. The system should jump into programming mode and display 20.
press #20 and the display will read back the _installer code_ one digit at a time (ignore the leading zeros).
Press *99 to exit programming
To enter a new master user code enter [installer code] + 8 + 02 + [new master code]. Do not hesitate more than a second or so between keystrokes or it will exit code programming without the new code taking.
