I have an oak hardwood 5/16" top nailed floor installed in 1970. I have moved and interior door and will be lacing in some flooring I cannibalized from a closet. The wood will need some touchup, so I'm trying to figure out what the existing finish is. I now it's not shellac ( did the alcohol test). So I'm guessing varnish or lacquer.
Is it important to know specifically or can I just go and use some varnish or poly to do touch up. Guidance appreciated.
Thanks, Joe
