Does anyone own or know much about this unit? It's the Goodman 13 seer GSX13. I'm getting involved with building a house and the builder wants to install this unit. The house will approx 2300 square feet located in NY state. This unit is not Energy Star compliant and it uses R-410A chlorine-free refrigerant. I was thinking of asking him to upgrade to the next model up which is E-star compliant but it uses R-22 refrigerant. The next one up from that uses R-410A.
Can someone explain the difference and possibly give me a few general opinions regarding Goodman? I've read some stuff online already but it never hurts to get more info.
Here's the model he's recommending:
13SEERGSX13 (http://www.goodmanmfg.com/Home/Products/AirConditioningSystems/13SEERGSX13/tabid/609/Default.aspx)
Here's the 'lesser' 14 seer:
14SEERGSC14 (http://www.goodmanmfg.com/Home/Products/AirConditioningSystems/14SEERGSC14/tabid/209/Default.aspx)
Here's the 'better' 14 seer:
14SEERSSX14 (http://www.goodmanmfg.com/Home/Products/AirConditioningSystems/14SEERSSX14/tabid/208/Default.aspx)
Thanks!

They should do a room by room Manual J heat-load calc & then a Manual D for the duct system.
I would want the 14-SEER because it has a TXV metering device & a Copeland Scroll compressor, the 13-SEER normally does not have either one.
It's your choice on the R-22 or R-410A, they are working on new substitutes for both refrigerants.
What's the price differential?

Heres a link with quite a bit of useful info on this subject;
Central Air Conditioners (http://www.furnacecompare.com/air-conditioners/)
On a personal note,I wouldn't own a Goodman product.
Yes, builders get discounts and incentives for installing Goodman equipment. I guess whatever turns them a buck, right?
I am an authorized American Standard and Nordyne dealer. I own an American Standard unit. I work on all types of systems and Goodman doesn't rate very high on my list.

Where I work our installs are about 90% Goodman. We hardly ever have a problem with them.
The 13 seer model he is recommending does use a Scroll compressor and is very reliable.

Low end equipment most of the time comes with a low end install. I would ask for other pricing from good contractors that use name brand equipment like trane, carrier etc.

Good & bad installs are not Brand specific.
You can get good installs with Goodman equipment & that equipment will perform as good as any Brand!
Stop the Brand trashing! There is very little difference between top-end Brands at similar prices.
Goodman & Amana put their excellent "Expanded Performance Data" on the Internet where anyone can access it.
All Brands ought to do that.

The problem is where/how can you find a good installer ? Unless you know some one, otherwise, it will be hard. I know bad AC tech in a good (named) company. I also know good AC tech work from the back of his truck. So, for some one not working in this field, it is not easy.

All heat pumps are designed to work in heating at 45 deg in heating and at 95 deg in cooling so that omits brand as far as what they do I dont brand bash I just price and you get the quality you pay for .
Personally low end :
nutone , great warranty
High end :
rheem
trane
in which you usually pay for advertising
