I just purchased a Hunter 44860 programmable thermostat to replace my old thermostat.

My old thermostat was a mechanical honeywell from the 90s
wires attached:

R, G, Y, W.

There are other wires back in the wall that are capped off.

I want to make sure I wire the new system correctly. The Instruction book has instructions for conventional hvac and heat pump.

I have a heat pump w/ a gas furnace.

thanks in advance for the help!

Are you sure you have a heat pump? What is the make and model # of the unit outside, and furnace/air handler inside.

Heat pump system uses more than 4 wires.

Outside: York model number H1DA042S06A

Inside: York model number P3UCD16N07601A

thanks for the help

These units must be older?

I am not able to find any info on the outdoor unit. Inside unit is a gas furnace.

Take the cover off the unit outside, and see how may low voltage wire going to it. A/C only will have 2 wires. HP will have 5 wires.

That's not a heatpump.
