has anyone had any good experiences with having batteries rebuilt for cordless tools? i have a 14.4v dewalt drill (dw954) and it has worked great until now. one battery has always been a little stronger than the other, but now they've reached the point where they won't hold enough charge to do anything.

i bought the drill as an open box special a few years ago, and i only paid $100 for the entire thing - drill, 2 batteries, charger, case. buying two replacement batteries is going to cost almost that much again. i've heard ads for a place around here (batteries plus) that rebuilds battery packs. does anyone know how much cheaper it is compared to buying new battery packs, and how well the replacements hold up?

if it is going to cost nearly $100 for two packs, it would probably just be a better investment to upgrade and buy a whole new drill.

Batteries Plus is a reputable place, but I am not sure how much it would cost to rebuild the battery. Dewalt has a captive audience when it comes to batteries, and they know it, thus the higher price. Now, be wary of the battery rejuvenator items sold on ebay and elsewhere. You have to drink the snake oil first.
I just don't see the manufacturing cost difference between Ryobi ($39) and Dewalt ($89) batteries. I'm due for a couple of 14.4 and 18 volts, as well, so I share your frustration.

I recently checked into rebuiling one of my old batteries for my craftsman 19.2volt. If I could figure out how to do it myself, I'm sure that would be the way to go. I looked online and the going rate to have it rebuilt was about double the cost of a new battery. They did claim it would be better than new. I wound up buying a new battery when it was on sale :D
