Hello,

I have an old laptop that stopped working due to the hard drive dying, however, its still useful to me as I use with an ubuntu live CD. Well lately the battery stopped charging, so I got a new battery and I am getting the same results...not charging. Does anyone know what the issue is? I don't think its related to the hard drive, right?

Thanks in advance.

i do not see how it could be hdd related, but the system that charges your battery has probably gone bad.

Your power source is probably faulty and not charging the battery, since you have a new battery. What is the output voltage of the power pack? Does the charge light illuminate on the laptop?

The wires are probably broken at the tip where it plugs into the charge port on the computer. Wiggle the wires a bit at the tip and see if it shows to be charging.

So I tried charging it again and I saw that the "Charging" indicator came on and after a while it went away which could mean that its done charging, right? That's what I thought but when I tried to power it on all I get is the flickering/flashing of all lights indicators (Power button, num lock, cap lock, charging etc), like the computer is attempting to do something and then its just stops. This is why i thought the problem was connected to the hard drive.

The wires are probably broken at the tip where it plugs into the charge port on the computer. Wiggle the wires a bit at the tip and see if it shows to be charging.

I should have mentioned that the latch (what connects the monitor and the keyboard base) on the right hand side of the laptop is broken, so that area is open, I'll try to wiggle the wires a bit and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help so far.
