Hello,

I am replacing a fluorescent ballast and the wires coming from the old ballast to the socket connectors (where the bulbs connect to) are terminated without a screw connector but just stripped and put into the hole provided. The wires are not stranded, but solid and insulated.

How do I remove these wires? Do I need a special tool?

Thanks.

No need to remove the wires from the lamp holders.
Just cut them near the old ballast and then wire nut them to the wires on the new ballast.

Thanks for the info Greg. I guess I figured that would be one way to do it but wasn't sure if these types of connections were made to be done and undone.

Glad to be on the forum.
:)

Just to add I have run into replacement ballasts with wires so short you had to use most of the length of old wires..

I also snip the wires close to the old, bad ballast. That way I never confuse it for a good one because there is no wires to connect to. ;)
