They don't make speedometer any more for my make/model truck. I learned that you can buy a pocket PC with GPS and then load speedometer software with larger graphics.
If I just use the pocket PC as a GPS speedometer without Internet, will I have to pay any monthly fee?
Can it be plugged in to cigarette lighter and external antenna?

Had one of those that I junked a while back (impound abandonment); could have given it to you. Ah, well.
Your current speedo is unrepairable? I have no idea the cost, but there are companies who do repairs.

Yeah, the mechanic I go to says he can send out to be repaired. Not sure I want to do that

Can you not just buy one at a wrecking yard?
I wouldn't bother with a pocket pc if you went this way.
Just buy an automotive GPS................they all have a speed indicator function.
Keep in mind that a vehicle must have a working speedometer and odometer to be roadworthy.

thanks for all the input. I strongly doubt one is available at the junkyard. But I might get lucky

These days many "junk yards" have Internet or teletype to others across the country. They should be able to locate one for you.
As GregH said, just get a GPS. They all have very accurate built in "speedometers".

I checked and didn't find one with a quick look in your area but I did find one out of Califonia for about $50. You will need to replace the complete cluster.
I will throw my fishfinder with the gps puck on my dash, it makes it easy to find lakes and where the acces is.
