I have a bedroom that we would like to paint but it's wallpapered and has some loose edges like where 2 pieces of paper come together. What could I do for that other than striping the whole wall. Is there a procedure in prepping the wall before paint. I was thinking and a sander with very light paper and then using joint compound. Am I on the right track? HELP PLEASE.........

It's never a good idea to paint over wallpaper! The paint job will only be as good as the wallpaper's bond to the wall. It also complicates the removal of the wallpaper later.
If you must paint over wallpaper you should use an oil base primer first. The moisture in latex primer/paint can further loosen the paper. Don't cover the wallpaper with joint compound! You can fill the seams with j/c or spackling. Any loose paper would need to be reglued first.

You can rent a wall paper steamer to steam the paper and make it easier to remove. As stated already I think you may regret trying to paint over the existing wall paper.

I have made this mistake before. I painted over the wallpaper, and it didn't look good. I ended up doing thrice the amount of work I should have done if I was patient enough ripping the paper off the wall first.

:madhell:Striping wallpaper that was placed over an already primed and painted wall is a job but not to difficult to remove..... BUT..... if the wallpaper was put on BARE sheet rock with no primer (new house) like mine was, it is a bear to get off without damaging the wall, make that impossible to get off without damaging the wall. Makes you grow to hate the stuff!! Never will have any in my house again.
