Humidifiers and Dehumidifiers - Wiring help for Generalaire humidifier model 81

I recently moved into this house. It has a Generalair humidifier model 81 drum. I need help connecting the humidifier to the furnance. I have a Tapan furnance. The board has a HUM port. I am not sure if i shld connect it to the HUM or EAC. I want the humidifier to start when the blower motor is running. Linking the contorl board pic. The neutral cable from the humidifier is connected to the W ( white cable on the board). Not sure where to connect the RED hot wire cable for humidifier on the board.

It has a Generalair humidifier model 81 drum.
Any sign of water damage around the unit? Before you start it up, make sure it's clean, new pad, and the float shuts off when the tray is filled up with water.

The board has a HUM port. I am not sure if i shld connect it to the HUM or EAC.
Those hook up are line voltage (110 volts) and a transformer is needed to drop the voltage down to 24 volts.


The neutral cable from the humidifier is connected to the W ( white cable on the board). Not sure where to connect the RED hot wire cable for humidifier on the board.
If you don't want to use the transformer set up, you can wire it up on the board low voltage. The white wire need go to C, red wire goes to W.

Is there a humidistat on this?

The humidifier is in good condition, replaced new pad, the float is working too. I had to replace the saddle valve.

There is a Humidistat connected. One cable connected to humidifier directly. The other cable is split into 2 parts.

1 end from the Humidistat is join to the White wire and connected to the W port on the control board.

1 end from the humidifier is connected to the Red wire and it is hanging loose. This is the wire i need to connect in order to get the humidifier working i guess.


In the last post you mention of rewiring Red wire from the humidifier to W on the circuit board and the White wire to the C on the circuit board. Is this correct and will this activate the humidifier when the heat is call upon. Please confirm it so i can make the changes. Really appreciate your help

Correct, the wires hooks up to W and C on the board.. Really, it don't matter, but I like to keep the "HOT" red on hot, that is W on the board when heat is called for.

I made the connections as described by you. But when the heat is call the humidifier doesn't come on. I have to rotate the humidistat little bit untill i hear a click and then the humidifier starts. Once the heat goes off the humidifier stop but the blower fan keep on running untill i lower the humidistat.

Is this normal or there is some thing wrong cabling. If so how do i fix it.

Basically i want the humidifier to start when the heat is on and stop when the heat is off.

Currently the humidifier humidistat is at 40 setting.

Sounds like you got G and C mixed up.. You need to wire it on C.

It is wired to C - Brown cable on the circuit and W - white cable on the circuit board.

Looked at your photo again, not sure still what you mean by this?

Also, do you have A/C?

if you take a look at the image link i posted. R,C,Y,G,W. The cable connected to them have different color. R=red, C=Brown,Y=blue,G=green,W=white.
The cables coming from humidistat are conected to C & W.

I think that is your problem right there.


The "W" should be on to C.

From A/C one on C another on Y.

I think you are getting feed back from the humidifer, and causing your fan to come on.
