if i have a bad contact and i connect the two wires together will it act like the contact is in use

Yup, a contact is just a switch.

Watch out for the EOLR (end of line resistor). Some panels are programmed to use them. Make sure you dont remove this. When removing a device from the system sometimes its better to go to the terminals on the panel and just jumper them out with a short or the proper resistor if needed.:)
