ok, so heres the deal. it has been raining off and on for a couple of weeks now but it has finally stopped. it got really really humid when things started to dry out and now the floor in my garage has water pooling up on it and the driveway is wet. the driveway is a smooth concrete floor and is attached to the house. the house has a concrete slab. the house sits about 8 inches higher than the garage and as far as i can tell, everything is dry indoors. i had to mop the water up today and then i drove around the neighborhood and everything else seemed to be drying out but by the time i got home, water was beeding up on the floon again. im not sure where the water is coming from. has anyone else had this problem. what should i do to fix it?

Check your downspouts and gutters to make sure the water is depositing 10' away from buildings. The water is percking up from under the slab, either on clay soil or from an underslab water pipe. You are certain it is not from the roof, going down a wall inside and leaking on the floor?

im pretty sure its not coming from the roof because its not pooling up in any one place. its just beeding up everywhere. i dont have any gutters or downspouts on that part of the house but there is a covered patio so all of the eves where runoff would be are at least 36 inches deep. would painting the floor help or would i just end up with water on the paint?

You'd end up with a bunch of peeling paint. The water is migrating up from below so regular paint won't help. The "water seal" type paints won't hold up to any traffic.
If it only does it after a lot of rain, I'd guess I'd just deal with it. Has it always done this? How new is the home?
Maybe someone else will have an idea.

the house was built in the 1960s but we just bought it a couple of years ago. as far as i know, its only been doing this for about the past month or so. what i dont wnderstand is why it doesnt happen until the rain stops. and it goes down the driveway too. its finallt starting to dry out now but yesterday the alley and all the other driveways were dry. mine had water standing on it from the edge of the driveway all the way up to the back door in the garage. do you think sealing the concrete would help. i'd hate to just have to suck it up and deal because thats where the dogs go when its raining.

the shop floor where i work-sweats-terribly when the humidity is high.
that could be what you are experiencing.
it helps-alot- to clean the floors, with soap & water/amonia cleans well to but the fumes will get you.

I should have said it is "Probably" coming from below the slab. If its real heavy condensation..the only way to avoid it would be to somehow heat the slab..I don't know how you'd do that though.
Try drying it real well in one area, then tape a 1'x1" square of plastic or foil down. In 24 hrs, if there is moisture under it, then its coming from below, if there is moisture on top, then its condensation. I think I got that right, if not someone will correct me.
Nope..I got it..same method as here...Finishing a Basement 2 - Moisture Proofing | DoItYourself.com (http://www.doityourself.com/stry/basementremodels2)

Good idea. I'll try that then.
