I would like to have a winterized gazebo for my Michigan home that I can use as a 4 season art studio. I have no experience in carpentry. There is a winterized gazebo I could buy complete for $20,000 with thermal windows and built in fireplace, or I could buy a kit for $7,000 and find a carpenter to put in windows. It would be a 16ft octagonal gazebo. I also have been unable to find gazebo plans. Have looked in libraries, home depot, the internet...I don't want to overspend if I don't have to. I would like to put it on an 8ft platform and have a workroom underneath. Any thoughts?

If the $20,000 is for a gazebo that includes windows in which both panes are removable, THAT is the deal of a lifetime. Go for it!

Your local bldg. dept. will require that 2 walls of the gazebo meet the 65% open requirement of the UBC.

As far as getting the workroom underneath, be prepared the possibility that the same bldg. dept. may not allow you to do it
