I'm replacing the roof of my 20 year old patio cover. It's 1/2" plywood covered with mineral faced roll roofing, and the underside is exposed. I plan to replace it with the same, except I will put felt under the roll roofing as required by the mfgr.

Since the underside of the sheathing is visible, I have to paint one side of the plywood. I was going to do this before installing it. While I'm at it, is there any reason to paint the top side of the plywood too? Would the roof last longer if I painted the top of the sheathing before laying down the felt and roll roofing? Or is there nothing to be gained by doing this?

Nothing to be gained from painting the top side. Your roofing is all the protection you need.
