I am changing a Honeywell Chrontherm IV Thermostat with a Honeywell TH8320U1008 Thermostat. The existing wiring on the Chrono IV is Y1=Yellow Jumper to W1, G=Green, O/B=Orange, E=Black jumper to H2, R=Red, C=Blue. The Brown and White wire are not used. Where do these wires go on the New Honeywell TH8320U1008? My Heating/Cooling System is a Trane XL 14i Heat Pump. I have no outdoor or indoor sensor.

Old-----------New
Y1=Yellow----Y1
G=Green------G
O/B=Orange---O/B
E=Black--------E
R=Red---------R/Rc
C=Blue---------C

What's the make and model of the furnace? (or air handler) If you got air handler, what's the KW heater on it?

The model of my trane is an XL 14i. Outdoor Model Nr is 2TWX4036A1000A, indoor model is TWE036C14FB. I cannot find anywhere as to what the KW heater on the airhandler is. One last question. My new honeywell 8320U1008 only had system choies of Heat, Cool and OFF. I called Honeywell although they were reluctant to tell me, they took me into the codes and talked me thru the codes and now I have system choices of Heat, Cool, Auto & Off. Am I supposed to also have a system choice of EM Heat? If I do, what is the procedure for reprogramming codes to get EM Heat Choice added...Thanks ahead of time...Charlie..

Place a jumper wire between Aux and E.

Set option 170 to 7 (multistage heatpump)
Set option 190 to 0 (O/B terminal is O)

Rather than adding a jumper between Aux and E, use the white wire on Aux.

At the air handler, you need to wire it up as below.

T-stat--------AH-----------HP
Aux- white---W1
E-----black---W2/W3-------

You may have a jumper now on the Air handler between all the W's, remove it if you do, and just have the jumper between W2 and W3.

Then the settings to this..

200-0
240,250,260,270 to 3 (some may not show up)
300-1 (auto change over)

Why would you set 200 to 1 , TWE is a fancoil with electric Aux heat.

Thanks for all the information....A couple of more questions.

1. Where are the T-Stat Wires Located on the Air Handler?

2. Can you provide me a complete list of where all the wires and what colors should be attached at the T-STAT Honeywell 83201008U end and which ones have to be jumpered to where and a list of what color wires have to be connected to where at the Air Handler end and what jumpers need to be installed from where to where?

2. Can you give me a complete list of all the Programmed Codes that I will need to have to set up and what numbers they need to be set to on the T-STAT?

That way I'm certain to not have any errors with my Italian fingers either in wiring at the Air Handler, the T-STAT or Programmed Codes in the T-STAT. I then will keep the list as a record in my manual for future reference. Remember, I have no outside sensor.

Again thanks to everyone for your help. I called the Heating Company 3/4 of a mile from me who is the same company I purchased the heating system from when I built the house 4 years ago and they want to charge me $150 for each 1/2 hour to come out and hook it up and I'm providing the T-STAT. I don't mind profit, but before I retired I was a Television Engineer with a 5 year degree and I did not make anywhere near $300 per hour. Thanks again to all of you for your help..Charlie

1. Where are the T-Stat Wires Located on the Air Handler?
Follow the low votage wire into the cabinet. You will need to take the cover off the unit. Make sure you kill ALL power on the air handler!

2. Can you provide me a complete list of where all the wires and what colors should be attached at the T-STAT
----------New------AH-------HP
Yellow----Y1--------Y2-------Y
Green-----G---------G
Orange---O/B------O--------O
Black------E------W2/W3----X2
Red--------R/Rc-----R--------R
Blue--------C------C/B-------C/B
White------Aux-----W1

2. Can you give me a complete list of all the Programmed Codes that I will need to have to set up and what numbers they need to be set to on the T-STAT?

120 to 160 you can figure it out.
170-7
190-0
200-0
220-2
240 to 270-3 (some may not show up)
280-1 (if you want "night light")
300-1
310-3
340-0
Rest you can figure out, ask if you are unsure.

Thanks for all you help guys. I will wire it up tomorrow and let you know the results. I just want to clarify I understand your abbreviations. On the wiring chart you provided, I assume the Heading NEW means the NEW terminals on T-STAT, AH means connections at the Air Handler HP means connections at the Heat Pump.

Glad to hear it's working.

Would you like me to review the dip switch settings to make sure they are set up right?

O.K. I know I'm half Polish but what is the "Dip Switch Setting". I feel so dumb, I hate to ask the question. It is a joke isn't it?

Sorry, no.. It's not a joke. The dipswtich on the air handler's board in the unit.. If you not sure what to look for, then don't worry about it.
