Hi all. Well we are about to paint our house to get it ready to sell. I am looking for a paint that has no VOC's and low or no odor. I have been finding alot of different paints that are supposedly low or no odor, but I am just not sure which one to choose. I have heard olympic premium doesnt have much of an odor.. Anyone have any experience with this paint? My husband would like to use Behr paint that includes the primer in it, but I havent heard anything about Behr being low odor paint. Anyway I appreciate any advice!

Welcome to the forums Jennifer!

I'm probably the wrong one to ask about paint odors, after years of painting - my sniffer ain't so good :D:p:D

If the paint is no or low VOC - it will say so on the label. I don't know to what extent the lack of voc's affects the paint's odor.

Generally primer isn't needed for interior repaints although occasionally one is needed [or helps] IMO most of the 'self priming' claims are more advertisment than fact. You will find better coatings [advice too] at your local paint store. Big box paint depts tend to have poorly trained [little real paint knowledge] help and stock coatings based more on price than on quality.

Most of the odor in a paint primarily comes from the solvents used in them. You can have a low odor coating that has higher VOC, or you can have a smelly paint that is considered low VOC. I agree with marksr's advice, talk to someone who has real knowledge about the coatings you are looking for. Good luck with your house.:)

Yeah, VOC's and perceived odor have ZERO relation to each other.

Case in point...
Zinsser's 123 Latex primer is one of the best.
The C2-One Latex primer has a higher VOC level...BUT...TO ME...very little odor.
>>> I won't use 123 primer. I can't stand the smell of it.
(they're both top-notch Latex stain-blocking primers)

To me, the C2 LOVO (Low -VOC) paint has little odor as well.

It's all relative though!
