I just replaced the flapper but now the flush handle doesn't seem to be working correctly. It closes as soon as you flush it. In order to empty the bowl we have to hold the handle. Why? Can it be adjusted? I've tried but nothing seems to be helping!

Did you cut the ring off before you installed the flapper?
If you have a newer toilet you will see where the old flapper hooks onto the base of the white overflow tube. On a older type with no hooks the flapper has a ring that slips down over the overflow tube to the seat. If your tank has hooks, take a sharp knife and cut the neoprene ring off on the marks provided and hook the flapper on the hooks. Now attach the linkage,(chain) to the flush lever. The chain should have 1/4" of play when the flapper's seated. Too much play in the linkage and the flapper is sucked back down to the seat stopping the flush. Too little play and the flapper can not go back beyond the vertical and if you don't hold the handle down it will fall back on the seat again stopping the flush.
Go back and see if it's hooked correctle and that the ring's cut off and check the play in the linkage.
