Replaced an exterior door and while removing the trim, some of the paint chipped away. There are 4-5 layers of paint on the trim, so areas where the paint broke free have a noticeable indentation, if I just paint over it will stand out.

This is an older home, so replacement trim is not available. Should I remove the trim and strip it bare, or spackle the indents and paint over them.

How old is the house? old enough to have lead paint?

Since it is a LOT easier/quicker :D I'd probably sand and spackle.
