I'd like to suggest that an additional forum be set up just for dealing with gas leaks.

Hello: SeattlePioneer

A suggestion that has already been suggested several times over the years. There are many reasons why gas leaks should not be a do it yourself task.

One of many possible examples: Kind of like trying to give a novice diy'er instructions for flying an airplane, in a text only forum topic.......

Gas leaks can be very difficult to locate, seem to be coming from an appliance or a fitting, etc. When actually may be a leak that developed in a supply pipe or tubing inside a wall, under a crawl space beneath a structure, in a basement and/or an outside underground supply line, etc.

All of which are NOT do it yourself tasks. Best left to professionals. Which can include appliance service techs whom are trained to locate gas odors and/or leaks which are not appliance related, etc.

Any further discussions on the matter should be addressed in a PM and not here in a forum topic. Be glad to discuss the subject in a PM.
