I'm in the process of building a new addition and my electrical rough-in inspection is next week.

It will probably be some time before I add the security system but I wanted to run wire to the ground floor windows and doors just so it's there when I'm ready. Seems the hard-wired sensors are much cheaper than the wireless retrofit devices.

Could somebody set me straight on what type of wire to run and and where, in the framing members, it needs to be run to? A link to a page that explains this would be okay if you don't have time to get into the details.

Thanks!

Alarm systems are generally specify 22gauge wire at minimum.

Run a two conductor from each point where you want a contact back to the main control location.

Run a 4 conductor from each keypad, glassbreak or motion location back to the homerun.

If you want to prewire for system smokes, use 18ga 4 conductor.
