ok guys; i've been installing cameras for a few years now and I have no problem configuring dvrs for viewing them online; until my latest customer... he has mac computers! I ended up returning the dvr i purchased originally; and got a MAC compatible dvr (supposedly) but I still can't get in with apple computers; safari or explorer for mac browsers just won't let me get in and I don't know why... with a windows based computer; I can get in with no problem and view the cameras i installed... has anyone had this happen to them before?? the manufacturer is sending me a new dvr will arrive tomorrow and it's supposed to work... i just wanna know how someone else out there may have dealt with this problem and no-- the customer does not want to install windows on their mac

Probally too late, but I know Speco DVR's offer MAC compatibility software.

yeah, they do but speco dvrs are very expensive... about $900-to $1000 MORE than what I spent on an otherwise decent dvr (I spent $750.00 on a 16-ch mpeg4 500gb of memory w/dvd burner; the H264 model was 200 bucks more)... well, the manufacturer who sold me the dvr just sent me a new dvr which arrived today; and I'm hoping it will work (i.e. that I can log in remotely w/an apple computer) when I install it tomorrow at the cust's home...

Speco is my cheapest option, from there I can use Samsung, Honeywell and Bosch.:( Part of working for a corporation.

well i'm sad to report that I still have not solved this problem.. I'm able to log in fine w a windows pc.... and with a mac workbook pro i can even log into the dvr and view my cameras only when I'm on the network and viewing it on the internal ip... but that does me no good if I can't log into the external ip and see 'em.. i've been on at this the entire weekend all day and no luck... the manufacturer will try to log in to my desktop remotely monday or tuesday but i'm running out of time.. i don't know why i can't log in with a mac to view my cameras...

I strongly suspect that this is more of a network configuration issue than anything. Quite often, ISPs block some of the common ports that are needed for this type or remote access, and Mac networking is even more closed than typical.

hmm i thought about that.. but we went to a port checker website typed in our specific port which is 2415.. and the port came back as open... what bothers me is that I can view the cameras online with pc via the external ip.... just not with the mac...:wall:

A couple questions:
What model DVR?
What O/S on the MAC?
What browser on the MAC?

I am happy to report that i got the mac dvr working.. don't ask me why... but the dvr had to be configured to run through port 80 when the router forwarded to the internal ip... and i had it on a diff gateway... i didn't think it would matter.. i thought a port was a port.. but it kinda makes sense because when you type in http:// plus whatever website it's like going thru port 80 anyway... at least that's the way i understand it.. well, alls well that ends well...
