Greetings All!
I recently moved into a house that has a wood-burning stove installed into a back mud room.
The Home Inspector informed us that we would need someone to come in and W.E.T.T certify it for us and Insurance has told us that we need to take it out and have it reinstalled by someone who can W.E.T.T certify us?
We were hoping to find someone that could bring it up to code, unfortunately we have had no luck finding anyone who can come and check it out. One company was going to charge us 125 for a cleaning, 130 to do a initial inspection and another 130 to come and reinspect once it has been brought up to code. We would have to find someone to do the work, since he is only the inspector.
Does anyone in the Toronto/Durham Area know of someone who can inspect and do the work to bring it up to spec? Or can someone give us an idea what guidelines the W.E.T.T Certification process follows?
Thanks in advance!

We went through the same thing when we recently bought our house.
Go to a local fireplace/woodstove dealer and get the names of contractors who could do the work. Some should also be qualified to do the inspection. Shop around for insurance. We found that requirements vary. Check your local regulations as well, especially if you do any of the work yourself. Our insurance company asked for pictures after the work was done, and they were happy with that.
WETT inspectors are looking for compliance to building/fire codes, plus compliance with the manufacturer's installation directions, which are obviously different for the each stove depending on the construction of the unit.
