I wired my parents house with an RJ31x connector. Working with a capable device like the ADT Home Health Monitor, the connector allows the device to cut off all phones in the house and grab the phone line to the telco.

The problem is ADT Tech Support. Twice they promised to send me a cable to connect the Home Health Monitor to the RJ31x and twice it has not shown up.

So I need to go from a 6P6C RJ14 on the back of the home health monitor through an RJ45 male which plugs into the RJ31x.

Does anyone know the pin out of the 6P6C connector on the ADT Device. There should be two pairs- one to the phone company drop and the other to the rest of the phones in the house. Which is which?

On a guess, since it's a standard RJ-31x jack, Make the the RJ45 end like a normal network cable (ltO, O, LtG, Blu, LtBlu, G, LtBrn, Brn). At the RJ-14 end, since it's a 6 pin, follow the same sequence, but leave out the green pair.

The RJ-31x uses the two center pins to supply dialtone to the device with the siezure capability, and the two outer pins to return the dialtone.

It makes sense but the whole thing is a PITA. To figure out the wiring I have need to have the thing hooked up to a real phone line, call adt and test with all phones ON hook, and then test with any phone OFF hook.

And they will want to send out a tech if it fails because the guessing was wrong. I really dont feel I should have to spend 100 bucks just to plug the device into a RJ31x jack--the RJ31x wiring pinouts are well known- the ADT is the mystery.

My guess is that the ADT unit is looking for telco hookup on line(pair) 1 and maybe line(pair) 2 on the RJ14 and breaks connection from line(pair) 1 to line(pair) 3 on the RJ14 when it is active.

ADT will not send you the cable. If you want it done right, either splice a cable as MrRonFL suggested or replace the system with a professionally installed security system with a wireless medical pendant.

As I recall, the Home Camponion system was designed for the Sales Rep to install, and as such was never designed for line seizure.

According to the ADT web site, it supports line seizure (confirmed over the phone and on their web site). The system has the pendant.

Im sticking with it because a low battery in the pendant causes an alarm condition, and the system forces a self-test every 30 days-- I did not see that in comparable systems.

in "most" pofessional systems-

you can have the test signal sent in HOURS... not months

also- they will monitor battery conditions.

cord-

take a 6p6c cord- cut off one of the connectors, crimp on an 8p8c CENTERED, and it should work. ( oustide wires, need to be pushed to the outer 2 on the RJ-45 connector )

it may be a 6pos, but not using the outer 2, and only using inner 4 (RJ-11)

quick test-

plug in a CAT5 cable in the RJ-31... phones should be DEAD

= RJ-31 connected properly

make cord- plug in, call ADT advise of test, hang up- hit button, pick up phone, see if its dead

call ADT to confirm signal
