A plumber who did work on my home told me that those Clorox Bleech tablets are bad for your toilet and will eat through the gaskets and polymer components in the tank. To be completely honest, this guy, and his teenage assistants, did really shotty work and I have some material engineering in my background so I am highly suspect of this advice. Droping a tablet in the tank is 100-fold easier than scrubbing out the bowl each week so does anyone have any advice?
Is it not good for all toilets (which is what this guy was saying) or acceptable for only certain kinds, or are they perfectly fine for anyone?

Almost any plumber will tell you the same thing. Any chemical strong enough to help keep the bowl clean will over time affect the gaskets and seals.
The systems that inject a small amount into the overflow at each flush, or the type that clip in the bowl are much better

Gunguy45: is right most manufactors do not recommend using the tank type clearners. If you decide to use the bowl type be sure you don't mix different types together, can cause problems with your pipes or your health.
