Apparently my water heater stayed lit after I shut down the hot water in my kitchen, after a few seconds a pipe under the sink exploded, my wife is very scared about this. The repairman came over and checked it, replaced a rubber part inside it... any ides on what could have caused this? :wall:

Apparently my water heater stayed lit after I shut down the hot water in my kitchen, after a few seconds a pipe under the sink exploded, my wife is very scared about this. You shut your water down in the kitchen every time you turn the sink faucet off. No difference between that and the supply valve so that makes no sense. The repairman came over and checked it, replaced a rubber part inside it Inside what? The water heater? Can't off hand think of any rubber parts inside the water heater. More fully describe what blew up and exactly what damage it suffered.

There is a type of plastic tubing no longer legal often used in older mobile homes and some houses that breaks easily. Once knocked a bleach bottle over under a sink and had a line rupture just from the weight of the bleach bottle hitting it.

Guys, the original poster indicates he is in Argentina. Anybody have any idea how their hot water systems work down there????????

And to the original poster -- this forum is primarily geared towards U.S. and Canadian readers, so we have no idea how your hot water systems are designed. If you could elaborate a bit on how your water heaters operate in Argentia, we might be able to help you better.

Primitive tankless water heaters with no safety relief valves.

that line is away from the hot water heater and the shutting of the valvwe might of hammered and the gasket popped out...how the pressure of the water hot or cold when used if it is powerful it could pop it had nothing to do with the hot water heater.the heated water might of added to the accident cold happen on the cold also but the rubber is more likly to not soften up as when hot water flows.
