It's a little difficult to explain, but I am looking to open up our living room walls on two sides to create an entry way in one wall and a open window in the other. Here is a picture that will hopefully help explain what I am looking to do (Openned wall.bmp - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage (http://www.box.net/shared/k18k04cydx)).
My neighboor who is a structural engineer said it won't be a problem to do this as long as I use the right beams/supports. Therefore I was wondering how to correctly position the studs for the post where the two walls meet. I am hoping to minimize the size of the posts so that is opens it up more.
I have done a rough diagram on how I think it should be done, but I am hopnig someone can check it (Stud location.bmp - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage (http://www.box.net/shared/0vps36j00j) ). Unfortunately my neighbour is now gone for 6 months travelling and I am hoping to do this project soon.

Are either of those walls bearing walls? They don't look like it from the picture.

Both are actually load bearing according to my neighbour.

If that's the case I would build temporary walls/supports while you're doing the work. The size of the supports & beams are better left to an engineer.
