I am on the brink of a new 4ton ser16 system purchase and would very much appreciate opinions from experts as to which brand central ac they would install in their own homes, discounting workplace discounts. I am currently considering Carrier or Trane, for no particular reason, so feel free to suggest another brand. TIA for your time to respond.

Trane has made the best equipment for years and years. They have the best R and D out there. There compressors or legendary for there dependability. But all that is a wash if the equipment is installed by jack legs. Install is 75% of what you will be purchasing.

I agree with "airman" the install or installing contractor is more important then brand. Every contractor has a brand they prefer, I install Trane, Bryant, and Amana

Contractor is most important,
since some opinions claimed trane, I wouldn't say they are any better than carrier or bryant only unless you don't count the evolution and infinity controls from them.
