I am looking for an intercom system. It can be a wireless, or wired. It does not really matter. Wireless would be preferred but wired would work. It will be for a quadriplegic so it will have to be in an on all the time mode. This one was one we were looking at but seems to be discontinued.

Aiphone (http://www.aiphone.com/products/alpha-list/detail/lem) makes some of the best, most fool-proof stuff around. It's wired, but everything is clearly labeled and simple to install.
Voice-activated walkie-talkies and baby monitors are other options.
If it's a life safety situation you may qualify for financial assistance for a "nurse call" system that not only allows you to audibly monitor the patient, it will also allow him to place a call-for-help using any number of human interfaces. It can also monitor and annunciate bed-out alarms, wheelchair alarms, IV alarms, vent alarms, telemetry alarms, and other medical equipment. These systems can also output the alarms to pagers, cell phones, e-mail, and IP.

Not necessarily life safety but my friend would like to communicate with someone in the other room without having to push a button on an intercom. Must be voice activated and be able to be on all the time especially when he is in bed and immobile.
