Hi all,

The co-op I have bought had an old soap dish mounted to the bathroom tile which was covered in green scale. The dish itself was easy to remove by loosening a set screw, but I was surprised the see that the mount isn't screwed into the tile. It's a solid pieces with no screws and looks like it's fixed directly in with cement or grout. It's probably been there since the building was built. I chipped out a little grout around the edges, but I'm afraid to get too rough without some idea of how far it's in and how much damage I might do to the tile and wall. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
- Steve

Most soap dishes are set with thinset, just like the tile. Make sure all the grout around the dish is removed and start busting it out with a hammer. Just make sure you wear safety glasses. I can patch any possible damage with new thinset.
