I have a condo with a heat/cooling system in the ceiling, currently running off of what appears to be a Honeywell T834C thermostat.

How are the wires supposed to be connected in the TH8110? It looks like the yellow, green, and white wires are straight connections (yellow-Y, green-G, white-W) but what about the red wire? Does it go to the R terminal or the C terminal?

PS
Can anyone actually give a name (type) for these heating/cooling units that seem to be unique to high rise or condos?

The red wire should be on R/Rc on the new t-stat. Are you sure the new t-stat is the T8110? I am not able to see this unit online.

Make sure you kill the power to the unit..

Not sure what unit you have.. Most condo has "all in one" packaged unit that is in a closet.

That's the Honeywell visionpro touch screen 1 heat / 1 cool.

The red wire connects to R use the provided jumper to Rc.

If you do not have a fith wire to connect to C at your stat and unit you will require batteries.

Are you sure that the white wire was on W? I have seen condos use this for the reversing valve of geothermal heatpumps. (O or B)

It would be the same terminal on your new stat, just a different setiing for option 170 and possibly 190.

It's a simple test if you are unsure, connect white to W, set the stat for heat and hold your hand near a supply air register. Do the same in cool mode.

Thanks to all for your help

So is this unit a heat pump (or how would I tell)? I've never been able to get an answer (even from maintenance) to this question.

I think I understand you're instructions so far--the yellow and green are straight connections, but (1) the white could either go W or O/B and (2) the red goes to the R terminal (which comes already jumpered to Rc)

What color should the 5th wire be that would go to the C terminal ?

Are you able to get to the unit itself? If so, find the tag with the Model#, and post and the brand of the unit for us. Then we can look it up to see what you got for sure.

In heating mode, if you hear the compressor running, then you have a HP.

What ever is left over in the wall. That same color wire will then need to be hooked up to the unit's C on the board.
