Hello All,
I have a GE XL44 gas range. It's around 12 years old. When trying to light the front right burner (largest and most used) I only sometimes get the click/spark in the "lite" position. When attempting to use the left rear burner the right rear igniter will click. Sometimes when using any of the burners, several burners will click/spark at different times. Gas is emitted from the chosen burner whether it lights or not. The oven and broiler work fine. I did a search and did not find similar threads but did notice that others had model #'s and mentioned codes. Where do I start? Where is the boiler plate info? I'm fairly handy and have tackled a couple of washer/dryer problems with your help. Please save me again. Momma doesn't like usings matches to light the burners.:madhell: Jimmy

Hello Jim and Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic.
Possible one or more of the spark switches on top of the burner knob(s) is defective and/or not making a good electrical connection.
Also possible one or more of the sparkers is dirty. Clean gently with thin grade wire steel wool or hard bristled brush. If the spark element rod is visible and heated by the burner flame(s) dirty elements can cause the problem described and several other conditions.
Another possible cause is the spark igniter's are worn out. Especially if cleaning the sparking elements (igniter's-rods) does not resolved the condition(s).

Sharp Advice,
I checked the sticky and also went to the GE site. I found the boiler plate. Model # JGBP30GEV4WH. I cleaned the spark igniter tips. How do you access the switches above the knobs?
It does not appear that the top lifts up. Also where is the spark module and how do you access it? Thanks, Jimmy

Also check the wires for damaged insualtion ----usually eaten away by rats, but could be damaged by heat.
Sounds like you have a sealed burner system ----which can be hard to get access to inspect. You need to figure it out if you are going to be your own repairman.

SeattlePioneer,
Sure, I'm ready, I take credit for a couple of vintage car rebuilds ( current project = '67 Camaro RS/SS 4 speed vert.), keeping a house built in 1933 going, and an eleven year old. I agree, unit looks to be sealed (top and burner assemblies look to be attached to one another). No rats, I have ferrel cats with a good kill radius.
