The little emblem on the right end of my task bar, that turns green when ever I'm connected to the internet. We are at an RV park. What I wanted to know was how do I turn the emblem on and off. Please explain in detail. At this RV park I am having problems with the Wi-Fi connection...the emblem has gone off and on. Thanks for your time.

The little "emblem" will turn on and off with the signal you are either sending or receiving. Go to control panel, network connections, double click on wireless network connection and see if you are sending or receiving packets. You may not have connected properly to it and could be picking up a weak signal from elsewhere. Click on the view all networks at the bottom of the window. Let us know what you find once you get there.

Thanks Chandler for the information. It seems to be working fine for now but if it goes out again, I'll try using your information then. I'll let you know how it works out.

I've got another problem now, I can't open up microsoft outlook. I can open all programs and web sites with no problem. According to this indicator the Wi-Fi connection is excellent. If you have any ideas please explain in detail.

WiFi won't have anything to do with your opening Outlook. It is a program and not dependend on your internet connection. Just for information, what are you doing to try opening it? If you are clicking on an icon, go to start, all programs, locate (probably) Microsoft Office and click on the Outlook under it. That's a direct way to it. Your icon may be corrupted. Let us know how it goes.

The microsoft outlook just started working and seems to be O.K. I hate to say it but I've got another problem now. I can't send e-mails. I don't know if this a recent problem or it's been there all the time. I've received approximately 15 e-mails. Dose anyone know whats going on? My coverage is excellent, most of the time. It seems like every time I try to get to the internet, something goes wrong. The majority of the time I have to completly shut down and start over.

You may need to reconfigure your outgoing mail settings in Outlook. Go to tools, Account settings, highlight your email account, click on change, then look down for your SMTP settings on the outgoing mail box. Let us know what it says. It should be "mail.xxservernamexx.net or com. For instance mail.alltel.net. It will probably be the same as your inbound settings.

Chandler,
I'm running microsoft outlook 2000 and it doesn't have any of the selections you listed, under Tools. We are going to be here at the RV park for another 3 weeks, so I hope you or someone else can come up with a solution.

Sorry, I'm running 2007. Tools, Accounts, highlight your mail server, click properties. You should have the option of setting the smtp or outbound mail server there. I'm working off memory, so let me know if you find it or not.

I believe we may be close now. If I go to Tools/Accounts/Properties then I get a box entitled "Microsoft Mail Server Properties" with the following 4 tabs - General, Servers, Connection, and Advanced. Maybe I should download a newer version of "Outlook". If this is the way to go please explain in detail how to do this.

Remember, I am working off memory. You won't "download" a new version of Outlook. You will have to buy it. It's not free like the browsers. On the servers tab, see if you can find where your outbound mail server(SMTP) is, and make it the same as your inbound server, since you are receiving mail.

Chandler, Under the Servers tab, my incoming mail server is "POP3" and my outgoing mail server is "SMTP". I really do appreciate your sticking with me. I think I can change my incoming server but I'm not sure about my outgoing server.

What internet provider do you have? You will need their pop3 and smtp addresses in order to get mail. If you have Cox or Comcast type service, you could just read your email via their website instead of using Outlook?

I use Firefox but I also have IE. I'm having trouble sending e-mail but I can receive it O.K.

Who is your provider, i.e. who do you send the money too each month?

Sorry about that, it is Charter cable.

your smtp (outgoing) address should be: smtp.Charter.net in your settings. It should be right below your POP3 address.

Under the servers tab my incoming is POP3 - mail.charter.net and my outgoing is SMTP - mail.charter.net.

Check Charter's website to see if they've changed the port number for incoming mail from the standard Port 25. Many ISPs including Verizon have moved to Port 587 (or other) to curb the tide of spammers.
