We have a natural gas fired, vented fireplace which is about 4 years old. The unit is thermostatically controlled by a wall thermostat. The unit will "start" and ignite the gas fire. That function seems to be working properly at that stage.
The problem comes when the pre-set temperature setting reaches the desired heat level in the room and decides to shut down. The fire will stop briefly but re-ignites, often several times in a row until eventually it shuts down. On a few occasions, I have gotten up and re-set (lowered) the thermostat setting which in turn keeps the fire from re-igniting.
Is there a problem with the thermostat or with the gas shutoff valve? How can I fix this problem?
Thanks for listening.
