A friend of mine wants their dblwide resided. It has a blue siding already on it that came when they bought the doublewide and now his ole lady is wanting a tan siding on it.I've put up vinyl siding, but never had to reside a house. What options do I have in doing this?Is it possible to go over the existing?Do I HAVE to tear the existing off first? Please give me a direction that I must go in.Naturally the cheaper the better. Thanks in advance

Is the existing siding horizontal vinyl? If so, it all has to come down. Inspect under it, re apply any torn or missing moisture barrier and start with the starter strip at the bottom. You can probably leave all the jchannel trim in place, if it is white. If it is blue, then it has to be replaced as well. What color are the corners? White, leave 'em. Blue, they gotta go. It's not going to be an afternoon job, so set yourself in for the week or more if you are by yourself.

Don't shortcut the job. Do it right or get a job that doesn't require a lot of skill.:madhell:

Vinyl siding can be painted.... if it's in good shape and clean. SWP has a line of latex paint specifically formulated for vinyl.

Vinyl siding can only be one layer thick. You have been given the only two options -- remove it and install the new, like Chandler said, or paint it, like Marksr said.
