I've got a 2-car garage and a wooden door that is starting to rot. Rather than repair, I'm planning on replacing with a new steel door. The insulated ones look nice from the inside, and they do seem more solid, but are they really worth the extra cost? I don't think I need more than a budget model, but what do I know? It's kind of hard to imagine that the insulation makes that much difference when half the wall space in the garage is not insulated anyway. The space above the garage is attic space. Maybe there are other benefits to the "solid" doors than just insulation.

Spend the extra money...
The solid doors like the Clopay Premium series are 1 3/8 or 2" thick with foam bonded between the 2 steel panels. Good insulation, sound deadening, stiffness, dent resistance and a much cleaner and more light reflective appearance on the inside. No place for dust and junk to collect, no place for spiders and other critters to nest.
Just my opinion....
